Water Towers In New York
We noticed the water towers of New York straight away, as we walked the streets. They are on top of buildings that are over six stories, and are made of wood which is not painted or chemically treated. The water is pumped from the basement and the average tank holds approximately 40.000 litres, taking 2-3 hours to fill. The water is for general use including drinking. We became obsessed with them, and were always looking up trying to spot a different one. Here are the best of them.
This is a re post, but I thought I’d show these water towers before they change this Spring, when artwork by acclaimed artists and New York City public school students will be wrapped around 100 rooftop water tanks across all five boroughs, celebrating the talents of established and emerging artists, and calling attention to the global water crisis.

A Mela In Delhi
Every year for the first two weeks of February there’s a fair in Delhi called the Surajkund International Crafts Mela that we’ve been lucky enough to go to a few times. I think it’s one of the highlights of India, and a wonderful opportunity to see crafts, food, dance and entertainment from all over the country in one place. It seems to be a fair mainly for Indians as we have never seen many other tourists there. The last time we went we were ushered into the VIP seats ( under umbrellas) and given pistachio drinks and delicacies while we watched dancers and musicians from all the states perform. The dancers performed right in front of us and we took some video and stills. I can’t find all the photos at the moment but here are some.

Palermo Sicily
Palermo, the regional capital of Sicily has an unstable history, in that it has been occupied by many invaders over the centuries. Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Saracens, Normans, French and Spanish to name a few!!! Consequently the architectural style is diverse as are the people and the cuisine. Wandering around the streets and alleys with my camera I became quite enraptured with this city and I can’t wait to return.
