Water Towers In New York
We noticed the water towers of New York straight away, as we walked the streets. They are on top of buildings that are over six stories, and are made of wood which is not painted or chemically treated. The water is pumped from the basement and the average tank holds approximately 40.000 litres, taking 2-3 hours to fill. The water is for general use including drinking. We became obsessed with them, and were always looking up trying to spot a different one. Here are the best of them.
This is a re post, but I thought I’d show these water towers before they change this Spring, when artwork by acclaimed artists and New York City public school students will be wrapped around 100 rooftop water tanks across all five boroughs, celebrating the talents of established and emerging artists, and calling attention to the global water crisis.
We saw these water towers also. I also took lots of photos. They seem so out of place.
